When deciding to live a more ethical and conscious lifestyle, you can easily feel overwhelmed by the amount of things you need to change in your daily life and habits. The truth is that in our modern world, it is impossible to live an ethical life 100% of the time. So i think that when you truly decide to make changes in your life and live more accordingly to your values, it’s very important to ask yourself what’s really important to you and what compromises you are willing to make. It’s by defining your own priorities that you’ll be able to deal with the issues you’ll encounter along the way and truly make the changes you want in your life… For me personally, it all started back in 2016, when i started to care a lot more about animals and decided to switch all of my traditional beauty product for cruelty free ones. This was the very first step i took to change my consumerism habits and to this day, animals remain my biggest priority.
So for example when i was looking for a new handbag, my top priorities were that it was vegan and made in ethical and fair trade condition. I also wanted a sustainable product, a style a could wear everyday with everything, made with organic materials, produced locally and from an eco friendly brand. Now you probably guessed it, it’s impossible for me and for my budget to find this perfect item. So i compromised. I choose a bag that is vegan, partially made from recycled materials, sustainable, and from a brand that supports multiple organizations around the world. I sadly had to compromise on the fair trade because they produce in China, and it is made in PVC which is not the most eco friendly material.
But here is my point: i’m not aiming at perfection, i’m aiming at better. Because it’s impossible to buy anything that is perfect or to do anything that doesn’t have any negative impact of any sort, i’m simply trying to do my best according to my values, personal situation and the offer that is available. At the end of the day, living more ethically and consciously is simply trying to do good and better however and whenever we can. If everyone would just do that, the world would be in a much better state don’t you think? 😉
So now it’s your turn… what’s more important to YOU?
